Citizens Information Service Advocacy Annual Report 2023
The Citizens Information Service (CIS) Advocacy Annual Report 2023 highlights the scope and impact of advocacy work carried out by CIS staff nationwide, throughout the year.
Along with its important information and advice service, CIS offers a free advocacy service to the public. The advocacy service covers social welfare, employment, housing, immigration, health, consumer and education issues. This service supports and empowers people by ensuring their interests and voices are represented in accessing their rights and entitlements to social services. The CIS advocacy service is provided with the expertise and commitment of CIS staff.
At a national level, the number of new advocacy cases continues to increase.
- There has been a 4% increase in new long-term advocacy cases from 1,429 in 2022 to 1,678 in 2023.
- There has been a 14% increase in short-term advocacy cases from 3,322 to 3,788.
- Since 2021 there has been a 52% increase in the number of social welfare advocacy cases and a 6% increase in the number of housing cases.
The case studies highlighted in the Advocacy Annual Report 2023 demonstrate the positive impact of CIS staff in these client lives.
