CIB Welcomes Independent Review on Volunteering in Citizens Information Services
The Citizens Information Board (CIB) welcomes the independent review on volunteering in the Citizens Information Services (CIS) carried out by BearingPoint. Commissioned by the board of CIB, the review was conducted in consultation with CIS volunteers, staff and boards.
The consultation involved a high level of engagement from CIS volunteers. CIS volunteers submitted more than 230 survey responses, while four focus groups were also held with volunteers in Cork, Dublin and online. CIB is grateful for the engagement of the volunteers, staff and boards of the CIS in the consultation process.
The review charts a way forward for the continued reintegration of volunteers to the CIS, which will allow for increased access to a vital and high-quality service. There are currently 90 Citizens Information Centres open to the public at locations across the country.
The shared aim of CIB, CIS staff, boards and volunteers is to ensure the public has access to trusted and accurate information, advice and advocacy. CIB is pleased to see the report acknowledge the important role of volunteers in delivering information to the public.
CIB will support the CIS companies to implement the recommendations made in the review. Implementation of the recommendations will be monitored by the Standards and Development Committee in CIB.
